Treating the Whole Person

– psychologists typically are experts in behavioural & mental health
– but what about the whole person?
– patient-centred care – the patient (& their family/social network) is a partner in the overall approach to quality & safe care (lifestyle issues are looked at also)
– it involves a partnership, not being talked down to
– diet, nutrition, exercise level, sleep, smoking, taking medication
– self-management goals (constant vigilance/monitoring)
– behaviour strategies
– depression is related to many other health conditions
