Managing depression in teenagers

– Help the teenager change their negative thinking patterns
– Help the teenager change their problem behaviours
– Help the teenager address stresses in their relationships that may be contributing to their mood problems
– Help the teenager recognise early warning signs of depression

– If depression re-occurs – Avoid blame (of self &/or others) – and instead review what contributed to the slip and then re-establish management strategies
– Review life style
– Review habits of behaviours & ways of thinking
