Using the Relaxation Response to Reduce Stress

Summary:
– The relaxation response is meant to reduce the stress response (Also known as the Fight/Flight Response)
– the Fight/Flight Response was first described in the 1920s by Dr Walter B. Cannon (Harvard Medical School)
– It evolved as a survival mechanism (it controls the release of stress hormones
– today, this is often triggered by situations which are annoying or stressful, rather than life-threatening
– if triggered enough, this can lead to chronic stress
