Cognitive Learning

– it involves the conscious use of strategies to acquire new knowledge
– it involves formulating a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis against evidence, & then accepting, rejecting or revising the hypothesis
– concept maps are a way of mapping complex areas of learning
– it involves 4 stages:
1) understanding the material
2) organising the material so that the different components are connected
3) embedding the new material within existing knowledge
4) testing one’s knowledge of the material
