– it is a group of brain structures which includes the amygdala, hippocampus & hypothalamus which, together, are involved in:
– processing & regulating emotions
– memory formation and storage;
– sexual arousal; &
– processing odours

– the system is an important element of the body’s response to stress

– the system is connected to the endocrine & autonomic nervous systems

– mood disorders, bipolar disorder & schizophrenia have been highly linked to dysfunction in the limbic system
