1. WHY WE WORRY
– Stress Is a normal reaction
– Part of our natural survival strategy
– Channels energy to help us escape danger
– Chemicals released by our brain can help us feel nervous & make it hard to think more clearly
2. OUR RESPONSE
– immediate somatic reactions
– sometimes big events in our life can cause us to feel uncertain & worry about the future
3. ANXIETY
– for some, these feelings do not go away, even after the aniety-provoking event has passed
– can make it difficult to cope with every day life
– difficult to control worries (can, in some cases, lead to instances of panic attacks and/or intense fears of everyday life)
4. DEPRESSION
– prolonged
– sadness, worthlessness
– difficulty focusing, performance at school, difficulties with relationships
5. KEEPING WELL
– importance of a healthy lifestyle
– assists in thinking clearly
– behaviour activation (acknowledging it is difficult & the last thing you feel like doing when depressed/anxious)
– boosts confidence
– set yourself SMART goals
