sleep is a symptom, not a diagnosis

Treatment implications:
– person presents with insomnia, but it is due to a mood disorder (you treat the mood disorder not the insomnia)
– behavioural and sleep hygiene education (the obvious – the importance of routine, remove distraction, keep room cool, avoid exercise late in the day, avoid caffeine)
