– neuroscience shows the practice changes the brain (neuroplasticity)[Harvard study]
– Mindfulness: breathing, bodyscan
– incorporate into daily life (eating, walking, washing the dishes, taking a shower)
– 27 minutes practice/day over 8 weeks [Mindfulness-based stressed reduction]
MRI results:
– increased grey matter in left hippocampus, the posterior cingulate cortex, the tempero-parietal junction & cerebellum [areas involved in learning & memory, emotion regulation, sense of self, perspective-taking]
